yesterday, Wednesday, no new dogs, 1 adoption (terrier 87 from cage 1)
today, Thursday, 3 new dogs, no adoptions.
New dogs:
- 2 hunting dogs found 'in the mountains' by a hunter, both females, very skinny and starved, (2 yrs and 5 yrs old respectively)
- small-sized black and beige male, apothiki 1, Dimos Aradippou
none of them have a microchip.
Vet:
- tag 129 from apothiki 1
- tag 162 from apothiki 1, both have Parvo signs, got injections and will go again tomorrow.
- tag 115, boxer X whose swollen leg has not improved, for an x-ray which showed nothing is broken, continues painkiller and vitamins, we'll see if she's improved by the end of next week.

1 adoption - the small cute pekinese white-beige in apothiki 1
No new dogs
We have 3 reservations:
- tag 165 - Toulla wants to adopt the young male German Shepherd in the 2nd house on the left of the entrance as soon as she has re-homed some dogs from her farm, so don't give him away pls!
- tag 113 - toilet cage
- tag 60 - the recently sterilized lykos-gekkas X in the 3rd new cage right, leaving 24th Dec.
Vet:
- the slimmer of the 2 sterilized boxer mixes from the back yard (tag 114?) jumped off something higher and has injured her left shoulder, so she doens't want to use her leg. She gets RIMADYL painkiller for 6 days + vitamin B compound and we'll see if she improves by 24th Dec.
- the 3 remaining trixophagou puppies (black one died) for injections, they go again for the last time today (Tues).

1 new dog today: young adult female pitbull (brought by the Municipality ofLarnaka) in the cage outside the shelter.
Tag 23, the red-brown poodle (sterilized a few months back) was adopted by a Romanian who adopted one of the smallest beige puppies last week but brought it back today as her neighbour complained about the puppy crying all night.
Reserved in cage 8, brown terrier male forE.M. who will collect it by Friday latest.
Reserved also: the Sharpei cross and the small black poodle brought in last week - see Zoe's email of yesterday. Sharpei will be sterilized Friday morning, hopefully the poodle early next week.Vet:
- Tag 160 she doesn't need to go again, we'll continue Doxat for another week and she needs tinned food/cooked chicken to put on weight
- the Jack Russell female (blind on right eye) was rescued from Dhali compound by Maria today, she has kennel cough (Doxat for 8 days) -storage room3 instead of 1 so the puppies don't catch KC.
Kanelli, unfortunately didn't make it as far as an operation to remove a cancer tumour from her intestines discovered during the x-ray at the weekend, she died today.
We have 4 dogs going for grooming to Savvas on Friday, I have arranged for another 4 to be given a bath by a neighbour of mine and I could take another 2 to Margaret of Posh Pets on Friday morning.The actual number depends on how many volunteers we have outside Alphamega on Saturday - hopefully, I'll meet with Andry tomorrow evening for us to check where we are with Saturday.

2 new dogs today:
- poodle (storage room 1, tag 71) from Larnaka Municipality, beige with black on ears, friendly but shocked in the shelter.
- a young terrier/spitz female (storage/apothiki 3 - tag 181), white with some beige/brown brought by 2 brothers who wanted to adopt the husky mix (2nd house left outside). They say they picked it up last week on the main road from Kalochorio roundabout-Krasas area, but don't want to keep it.
No adoptions today.
3 dogs to the vet:
- Kanelli
- skinny black hunter female (tag 160)
- pitbull mix with laryngitis
ALL 3 NEED TO GO AGAIN TOMORROW, SATURDAY PLS.
Kanelli and the hunter need chicken in an attempt to put on some weight.

1 adoption, the black female labrador/hunter X, (outside to the right of Scooby) was adopted by someone from Lymbia for his field.
3 new dogs:
- young pointer puppy (apothiki/storage 1), from Savvas (vet) one of several dropped at his clinic some days ago, the others are still with him as they were injured.
- a female pitbull (tied outside next to chimney), looks as though she may have skin disease as some fur is missing, especially on the ears. She was dumped outside the shelter yesterday morning.
- Dimos-Municipality ofAradippou brought a young collie/lykos mix, male, now in apothiki 3.
Vet:
- Kanelli
- black female hunter, tag 160
- Scooby (he got another injection for psoriasis) and will be checked again in 10 days'time
- Brown pitbull X (tag 156) with laryngitis
Apart from Scooby, the other 3 will need to go again every day at least until Friday.
C.M. (volunteer) came to walk dogs.
New volunteer, V. (and a friend also came and walked some dogs. V. wants to come and help on a more regular basis possibly even some weekend days.
As the nights are getting cooler, we need to put the wooden tables back in all the cages and start putting out old clothes. We did some yesterday.

Busy afternoon yesterday, Monday, at the shelter: Andreas had to take 6 dogs (in 3 lots) to the vet... 3 of them will have to go again today.
- Lykoui, tag 20, managed to get his front right paw torn by another dog in the adjacent cage.The vetput 3 stitches and we have him in a closed cage in apothiki 3 for now - he needs OCTENISEPT as often as possible, ie. 3-5 times a day, but nothing else and will have stitches removed in 10 days'time (20-10-11).
- Kanelli is still getting injections but is eating chicken breast (gourmet) whenever he is given it, but refuses any other food.
No new dogs yesterday but 1 adoption of a terrier-type small dog from apothiki/storage 1 (black, beige and brown).

A very busy afternoon as the medication lists have become more numerous. Maria took the pekinese for sterilizing and she was picked up and adopted by C. D. for herself.
Christine brought 3 dogs back today of the original 7 we had sent her, 2 hunters (back in the backyard with new tags) and a black-grey terrier type male in one of the new cages outside with the 2 dogs which were moved there from cage 4 some time ago. I gave him a tag too - for details see the forma paradosis of each dog.
On the plus side, Christine took tag 25, white poodle with black ears from Cage 1 (he was groomed for the Dog Fiesta day).
2 other new dogs:
- one brown loukaniko type (young, 4-5 months) which Haris of Dimos Aradippou brought,
- one very attractive smallish female (red collar with a bell) which a guy brought who said he had talked to Maria (Paphiakos) and was supposed to bring her the dog yesterday, but couldn't manage.
1 other adoption, a Gekkas female by C. P. from 1st new cage right.
A man called P.L.is coming tomorrow to adopt a young hunting dog - Toulla has spoken to him and says it's ok to give him the dog. He is the young hunting male, black with some white in the same cage as tag 18 (border collie) was.
Rocky (tag 44) is the only dog that must go to Savvas tomorrow and probably on Sunday (check with Anthi) - he is getting injections for his cough. Andreas puts him in a carrier and he was good at the vet's the last 2 days.
The hunting dog in the outside cage on his own is not touching the food of the shelter (Loulla has been giving him cooked rice mixed with tinned food only, which he does eat). Today he had bloody diarrhoea and Savvas said to give him Synolux in his food and he will try and come up to see the dog. There is a medical record for him in the file.
A number of dogs in the inside cages have ticks (Loulla sprayed quite a few today) but the rest need to be done if ticks are found on them.

3 new dogs today - all from Larnaka:
- black female labrador (could be pure)
- poodle, beige with black ears and tail end
- hunting type dog, white and beige, young
Puppy from yesterday has a broken leg and Savvas will discuss with Christos what the treatment will be.
No adoptions today but C.D. collected 4 dogs this morning which she thinks she can find new homes for:
- tag 18, border collie female
- terrier male from the outside toilet cage, white with brown ears
- "Monkey" from cage 18, black and grey, has been at the shelter from before Nov.2010
- Husky X female youngster brought in a couple of weeks ago
She will also adopt the Pekinese (for herself) and wants to pick up Julie at some stage.
Rocky (tag 44) is coughing again, was taken to the vet and will need injections for a few days.
Tag 198, the small tiger-coloured sterilized female from cage 3 has trixophagou and will need Tactic every 2 days + creams.
Beige poodle from cage 3 has a hotspot on his head needing spray and cream.

Wet and muddy afternoon at the shelter with Andreas, Loulla, a new volunteer, Yianna Stavrou (who adopted a puppy from the shelter recently) and me.
Tag 172, the poodle, was sterilized this morning and had the lumps removed from her breasts. She is back at the shelter and seems ok. Because of the rain, we placed her in a cage in apothiki 3 and 2 other dogs that were outside each in a cage in apothiki 1.
No new dog today.
1 adoption by a family from Livadia.
Tomorrow, someone is coming to adopt a dog they picked out some 3 weeks ago.

1 dog (which was moved from the apothikes to a cage over the weekend) has obviously been bitten on his leg, Maria will take him to Savvas tomorrow morning when she takes the poodle (tag 172) for sterilizing and op. to remove lumps from her breasts.

Apart from Andreas, Loula and myself, 4 volunteers at the shelter today: Dimitris and Candy from England walked a number of dogs for a couple of hours, they're returning to England at the weekend, unfortunately. Christina and Helen Mina (Anna's sisters) also came to help walk more dogs and spending time with some of the difficult ones like lambis, Mangas etc.
Maria took dogs to vet this morning.
E. I. arranged for the very dirty female poodle (grey-white, matted coat) to be groomed and vaccinated at Marilena (vet) this morning.
No new dogs today, 1 adoption (tag 185) from toilet cage and the labrador male adopted yesterday picked up by new owner.
Loulla found 3 dogs in various inside cages with bald patches on them, they'll have to be taken to Savvas to see if it's trychophagou.
Lupos, the red braque (under palm tree) next to Doberman lady, will not take his Synolux tablets even with food, any ideas what to do here?

VET: Nayia took 2 puppies from apothiki 1 who had cough. Both need 1/2 doxat per day. (new medical records for both)
1 ADOPTION: G. C. came, filled in the form and paid 40 euros (adoption and donation) for the beige labrador in the outside cage. He took the dog fora walk and will come tomorrow afternoon to get him as he needs to finish his fence before he takes the dog home.
A couple, Marios and Katerina are interestedin the other labrador (female in first new cage) but aren't sure yet.
I will be taking the poodle mum in apothiki 1 for grooming on Friday at a pet shop in Athienou.

Andreas, Loula, Maria and myself this afternoon - Maria took the red braque (1 st house outside right, next to palm tree) to Savvas as he has some patches with missing fur on his back - doesn't seem to be tryxophagou but medication sheet for creams. He has tag 34 now.
Husky lady (Daisy) had stitches removed, therapy for Erlixia finished though she will get Vitamin B for 10 more days. Andreas wants to adopt her!
No new dogs.

- a small brown female dachshund/terrier X from one of the new outside cages by C.B. from Pervolia. He has already arranged for her to be sterilized tomorrow morning.

TodayChristoforos, Andreas, Petra and a volunteer, Candy from England on holiday - took a number of dogs for a walk and helped cleaning.
2 new dogs:
- puppy found by Silvia (was one of 2 adoptions today:)
- husky male, black + white, 2 blue eyes, male, no chip, youngish about 10-12 months I guess, Dimos Aradippou
2 adoptions:
- puppy brought today
- female fluffy poodle, white with long beige ears from cage 2
Vet:
- Maria took Billy this morning, he doesn't need to go again - he had an injection for what looks like an allergic reaction (as the vet said).
- Zoe took Angalitsas this evening, he carries on ANTIROBE 2xdaily and Octenisept and Bactroban on a wound on his backside (right) until healed. Also the female poodle with lumps on her teats.
Medication given. 3 people came to drop off 4 dogs, but told them we couldn't take them as we are full. 2 of the dogs were brought by their owner leaving Cyprus for good.

1) Billy has a swollen face and neck. it looks bad but Daniela assures me that it will go away with therapy. He must go to vets again tomorrow.
2) The 3 puppies need to go again to vet tomorrow.
Medical attention:
1) As we enter shelter on the left there is a brown/caramel colour dog. There is a red blood mark under her ear.
2) I'm not sure if LYKOS and Achilleas still need the tablets and/or creams. I put but it today but it looks to me that they dont need it any more.

Agkalitsas had a fight today and he was bleeding tou katharisame tin pligi tou stamatise kai i aimoragia but if someone can take him to the vet tha ine kalitera. i couldnt take him today-i spoke with anthi kai mou edosw ANTIROBE 1 in the morning 1 afternoon

This morning, I took 6 puppies to Savvas for injections -As we were going back home, Anna told me that her sister Christina (who took Angalitsas for a walk) mentioned that he has some wounds. Could you pls check him over the weekend to see whether he needs to see the vet.
We need OPTICLOX from Savvas tomorrow for Giagia (setter) and any other dog with red eyes from the dust.
'Foxy' was adopted by Aradippou Deputy Mayor today ( !) and one of the pointer puppies was adopted by a family from Aradippou. The Pekinese is reserved for someone who is coming on 23rd. Christos said he'll try to arrange for her to go to the adopter's vet for sterilization before 23rd.
Anna Mina, volunteer who adopted a dog, has taken a lot of photos of dogs this last week and she wants to make an album on our facebook profile. She's travelling back to Denmark with her dog on Monday and was at the shelter for the last time today taking more photos.

No adoptions yesterday or today.
3 new dogs yesterday:
- 1 puppy pushed into the outside cage with the labrador. Puppy was adopted by the guy who was going to pick up a puppy adopted Monday
- 2nd dog is a white labrador-hunter cross puppy (re. Nayia).
- 3rd dog is a pitbull mix, female, 1 yr old which Costis (vet) has been wanting to send us for some time (re. Christos)
2 new dogs today:
- 1 black spitz which was running about and hiding in the compound next door for some days, female, no microchip;
- the 2nd is a white labrador cross, young, beautiful amber-coloured eyes, male, brought by someone from Leivadia (with Christos' ok).
Vet visits yesterday and today by Maria, main one is a black shepherd dog (tag 147) from cage 8 which has been biting its own tail and has a medication sheet.
Today 4 puppies went for injections
Zoe, I spoke to Marios re. grooming last week and I think he said he was back at work today

Good afternoon in that we had 5 ADOPTIONS (4 people took the dog they chose with them, the 5th will pick it up about 2.30pm tomorrow from Andreas- got the form signed today).
1 new dog - labrador male, beige, no microchip brought by Konstantinos A., Kalochorio. I took the dog in and asked him to contact Kalochorio Kinotarxis when latter is back from holidays.
Medication list is getting longer & longer...finally gave them all their medication by 7.30pm.
Vet:
- tag 1 who had her tail amputated last week has bitten off the stitches, she had the wound sewn up again and now wears a collar, hopefully the stitches will stay in for a bit longer. This dog is also incontinent (which explains why her backside is always wet), Savvas says it's possible that when she was sterilized (before she came to the shelter) a nerve was damaged and that's why she is incontinent now.

No new dogs today.
4 adoptions today (2 dogs will be collected tomorrow) and a 5th adoption of a puppy is possible tomorrow.
Tag 170 (cage 4), skinny hunting dog, needs 2 Doxat per day for 28 days (medication record made).
The poodle mum had another injection today and will need to go tomorrow too.
Andreas brought a new volunteer, his koumbaros, Nestoras, today - he may well come with him Fri and Sat

Hot windy afternoon but the water is back, so things can only get better...!
4 new dogs today:
- a black spitz type male, outside 2nd house left, no chip (don't know where he came from yet)
- a white poodle/terrier male, youngish, red cat collar, no chip (Dimos Larnaka)
- a 2 month old black puppy found by the side of road by Pambos
- a white and brown puppy with a bruised front right leg found by Charalambia today, taken to Savvas and brought to the shelter by Maria tonight
No adoptions today
Christos and Maria gave 8 of the outside dogs ampoules against ticks and we'll do the remaining 7 in outside houses tomorrow.
Silvia also came up and moved some of the dogs from apothiki 3 (Billy and Co.) to the cages inside.
Vet:
- the poodle mum (tag 172), brought yesterday with 3 puppies, because she has lumps on her teats - she will need surgery but only after her diarrhoea is gone. She does not have Parvo but needs injections for a few days. We separated her from the puppies so they don't catch it.
I did a head count of all the dogsas at today including the new ones and found their number to be184.

No running water yet at the shelter, Maria brought water in the morning and Andreas went twice in the afternoon. Probably, we need to bring water in a tanker tomorrow and use the large water tank next to the generator until the water is back.
Maria took 1 dog (tag 23) for sterilization, she is back this afternoon, as well as:
- Achilleas (has a hot spot as well as possibly trixphagou)
- the skinny hunter (tag 181), he has tick fever (Doxat for 28 days)
- border collie (tag 18), she has finished her injections against pneumonia but needs Doxat for 10 days more
I took the old hunting dog lady (tag 141) who has some lumps on her body (due to her advanced age) and a lump under her chin - she must have Felexin 2xdaily for another 10 days.
New dogs:
- Poodle mum with 3 puppies (Dimos Larnaka), Christos sent us a photo. All 4 were given a bath this afternoon (all have fleas) and mum probably has mastitis (she has some lumpy teats) and should go tomorrow to the vet as well as one of the puppies which seemed to be breathing with difficulty today.
- a terrier, beige, with short legs, no microchip found but we'll check again tomorrow.
2 adoptions by/via Panayiotis the female German Shepherd mix and a border collie (black + white) for a friend of his.
Medication records are numerous but Roy is managing to give them all their medication on most days.

Mad afternoon at the shelter... Loulla, Anna Mina and friend, Joanna, Petra, Maria for the vet and one of her pupils, who walked dogs with Anna and Joanna.
No water at the shelter today - hopefully fault will be fixed by tomorrow lunchtime! God only knows how Roy will clean tomorrow, there are 5 x 20liter plastic containers with water and we will need more tomorrow morning.
1 adoption - a young hunting dog, brown with some white from cage 18 byStelios from Athienou.3 new dogs over the weekend and 1 puppy (white lykos type) from Dimos Larnaka today.
1 English Cypriot guy came and he will adopt the female pekinese tomorrow.

Hot, hot, hot....!
Roy with Andreas, Petra with a new volunteer (Anna Mina) who is going to adopt a dog (on reserved list) but cannot pick him up until the end of July.
We nearly had an incident because Anna took a dog for a walk and she walked downhill towards a farm where a huge German Shepherd was on the loose and nearly attacked the shelter dog and Anna. She was very sensible about it as she tied the dog up and walked the German Shepherd back to the farm where she shouted at the owner to tie him up. It means when people come to walk dogs, we must tell them to walk uphill (to the right of the shelter) and not down the loose surface road.
Christos P. adopted a hunting dog puppy.
No new dogs.
Anna and I took 3 dogs to the vet - tag 19, cage 15 who has otitis), injections finished, she only needs Dexoryl drops in her ears now.
- tag 18 from outside new cage, a border collie, has pneumonia and needs to go for another injection tomorrow.
- Tag 1, a beige poodle from cage 2, has an infected bottom and a cut tail. She was given a bath with iodine and water and must go to Savvas tomorrow pls.

Loulla, Maria, Petra and the 4 volunteers helpingtoday
No new dogs today...but then we had 5 dogs yesterday
2 adoptions and 1 fostering (possible adoption next week):
- the german Shepherd was taken home by Christos S. (this afternoon;
- 1 puppy by Angela, who came up a few times in May and June to help out at the shelter.
- Marios A. from Oroklini who wants to adopt the golden Retriever took him to his vet (Zoopiros) this afternoon.
Vet:
Maria took 3 puppies and they will have to go again tomorrow - she will take some tomorrow morning as well as the black labrador female who wasn't sterilized this morning as she is a pure breed. She got an injection today in case she is pregnant and will have a second one tomorrow morning.
The 4 volunteers (Louisa and friends) helped again for several hours today and managed to take all outside and some caged dogs for a walk.

3 dogs from industrial area brought by a citizen. Petra talked with the guy.
1 dog dropped next yard and seen accidentally.
1 Puppy left outside full of ticks and very sick. Went to the clinic for a drip and antibiotics and came back.
1 puppy brought from Toulla found abandoned and full of ticks and starving. Sprayed with Efipro.
1 adoption, the black Labrador that was sick.

- the male Akita by a couple who already have a dog, they live in a flat, but I told them they could return if they felt he wouldn't get on with their own dog.

- the black labrador, had another injection today and will get one more shot tomorrow.
- Mixalis managed to get the snappy terrier dog out of Dimos Larnaka cage and into a carrier

Skevi and Christos came up to the shelter as well as 2 university students who want to come and help during weekdays but can't do weekends (today they walked all the big dogs outside and brought with them 2x10kg bags of dry food):
The 2 found a tiny kitten which is probably no more than 2 weeks old and one of the girls will try to bottle feed it.
3 NEW DOGS:
- male pinscher (tiger colours), probably fully grown but about the same size as most of the puppies - Dimos Larnaka, in apothiki 1 with the puppies
- beautiful short-legged terrier with medium coat, red ears, very friendly (Tag 58), also Dimos Larnaka - made friends with the beige short-legged terrier in the toilet cage and is in there now
- someone brought a black and white sheep dog, female, very dirty but friendly (Tag 97), whom we will try to give a bath to tomorrow - she is a candidate for Marios grooming.
None of the new dogs have a microchip.
NO ADOPTIONS today, but...
1 RETURN:
- the boxer from yesterday (called 'Tyson') was picked up by the owner's husband and he promised to arrange a microchip to be fitted.

Busy day at shelter.
PARTICIPANTS: Sylvia (star), Toulla, Zoe, Evi & Maria.
ADOPTIONS: 3. Two puppies (white with slightly blue eyes and the black one with a white strip on the face.)
Also the gentleman who wanted the female Labrador (in the gated yard) arrived and took the dog.
CAGE CHANCES:
- Stella from the 1st apothiki has now moved to Cage: 14 her tag no is: 102.
- Also Tag: 200 who was in the 1st apothiki is now in cage: 7.
Both dogs take medication and changes have been noted in the medical records by Sylvia.
She is tag no: 51 and resides in Beverly Hills. Cage no: 14. She also takes medication for the ears.
VET ATTENTION NEEDED:
- Tag: 79, Cage 13 has lost his hair in the rear section.
- Tag: 34, Cage 34 NEEDS to be spayed.
- No tag, Cage 17, black colour, we have spayed recently, but she seems to have a problem with her intestines. Has white around her eyes.
NO VET NEEDED:
Cage 10, Tag: 105, Black and bushy. It was reported that she looked bloated. She is just turning into a fat cow. No vet needed.
GROOMING: Tomorrow I will take 4 dogs. Gypa, Stella and 2 other furry friends.
